Our Iconic Designer: Leon

December 4, 2018

You know what they say, teamwork makes the dream work, and we couldn’t be more delighted that the Iconic team is still growing.

We sat down with Designer, Leon, and sent a few questions his way to find out a little more about him.

So, Leon, what do you think you bring to the iCON!C team?

I love being creative and expressing myself visually and I think that shows in the care and energy I give to my work. I always have my eye on what’s going on in the world of design and challenge myself to think outside of the box to create work that stands out from other designers in the industry. My drive and ambition means I’m always ready to take on a difficult task, learn something new, and aim high with my ideas.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I am a huge fan of all forms of art and music - if I’m not busy doing design work then you’ll find me at concerts, festivals, or out with my friends! I love so many different music genres - electronic, hip hop, soul, reggae, indie - and it is a dream of mine to get involved in the music industry as a designer. I also love film & TV so find myself watching whatever’s something new when I have the time.

How long have you been designing?

I have been studying and practising design for almost 5 years. I started off making signature graphics for online forums as a hobby which inspired me to study Graphic Design even further, reaching degree level. At the same time, I began to take on freelance work in my local area, then spent a year as an intern for a nightlife events company.

What does iconic mean to you?

To me, something iconic has made its mark in history and won’t be forgotten. When I think of iconic graphic design in particular, I think of brands that are recognisable all over the world simply by their colour palette, designers with unique styles that have inspired many others to create similar work, and typefaces that are recognisable by a single letter. Iconic is impactful and unforgettable.

And finally, someone or something that you think is iconic?

Something I think is iconic is The Warehouse Project - a series of nightlife events in Manchester that has had a huge impact on northern nightlife, culture and economy. It’s remarkable for its quality and production value and is a favourite place of mine!

Someone I think is iconic is designer Kate Moross. She has such a unique and vibrant style of work, designing for many memorable brands and promotional campaigns, all whilst paving the way as an LGBT+ activist within the industry.
